Haneda Airport Car Rental: Terminal 3 Pick-up and Return Guide

Short answer
With Go on Rent-a-Car, Haneda Airport car rental means picking up the car at Terminal 3 in the P5 car park, 8th floor — about a 5-minute walk from arrivals, with no rental shuttle bus. Handover and return run 09:00–20:00 Japan time, online booking closes 48 hours before pick-up, and your documents are checked online before you land, so you are on the road in about 30 minutes.
Where you pick up the car at Haneda
Go on Rent-a-Car hands over and takes back every car at Tokyo Haneda Airport Terminal 3, the terminal where international flights arrive. The meeting point is the P5 car park, 8th floor, about a 5-minute walk from the arrivals hall. There is no rental-company shuttle bus and no office away from the airport: you walk from arrivals to the car, and you bring it back to the same place before you fly home.

Before you travel: book, pay and send your documents
Everything that usually happens at a rental counter is done online before you land, which is why the handover at Haneda takes only minutes.
- Book online at least 48 hours before pick-up — check availability and book. Choose pick-up and return times between 09:00 and 20:00 Japan time, select your arrival terminal and enter your flight and licence details. You can book up to 180 days ahead.
- Pay securely. The rental and the required Safety Pack (¥1,650 per day, ¥0 excess in covered accidents) are paid online via Stripe by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Your booking is confirmed when payment is complete. The deposit is not charged at this stage.
- Upload photos of your documents: the photo page of your passport, your driving licence, and the page of your International Driving Permit with your photo (or your official Japanese translation). JPG, PNG, HEIC and PDF files are accepted. Our AI system and our staff check every document before you arrive.
- Get the meeting point. When all documents are received, we email you the meeting point at Haneda.
Not sure your licence is valid in Japan? Use our licence checker and read our guide to driving in Japan with a foreign licence. The day before pick-up you receive a reminder in your language with the meeting point, what to bring and our emergency number, and you can save pick-up and return to your phone calendar with alerts one day and three hours before.
Step by step on arrival day
- Land at Terminal 3. International flights arrive at Terminal 3.
- Come out into the arrivals hall after immigration and customs.
- Walk to the P5 car park, 8th floor — about 5 minutes on foot. Use the meeting-point details in our email.
- Handover. We check your original documents, explain Japanese driving rules and inspect the car with you.
- Photo record. On your phone, you photograph the car before you drive: 4 photos — front, rear, left and right. These photos record the condition of the car at pick-up.
- Deposit hold. We place a temporary hold of ¥50,000 on your card. It is not a charge.
- Drive. You are usually on the road about 30 minutes after meeting us.
Japanese law accepts only certain driving documents. If you cannot show the originals at pick-up, we cannot hand over the car, and the cancellation fee applies (100% for documents that are not valid in Japan).
Arriving at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2
If your flight lands at Terminal 1 or 2 — for example some ANA flights use Terminal 2 — take the free shuttle bus that connects Terminals 1, 2 and 3. The ride takes a few minutes. Select your arrival terminal when you book. The same applies on the way home: return the car at Terminal 3, then take the free shuttle bus if you fly out from Terminal 1 or 2.
What to bring
- Your passport
- Your original home driving licence
- An International Driving Permit (1949 Geneva Convention), or an official Japanese translation if your licence is from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco or Taiwan (a valid Japanese licence also works)
- The same documents for every additional driver — extra drivers are free, and every driver must be 21 or older
- Your smartphone, for your booking page, the car photos and the emergency guide
Please bring the originals even though you uploaded photos. Licences and "international licences" issued in mainland China are not valid in Japan.
Returning the car at Haneda
- Refuel to a full tank of high-octane petrol (ハイオク) shortly before you reach the airport and keep the receipt. Our guide on how to refuel a rental car in Japan explains self-service pumps. If the tank is not full, we charge the fuel used plus a ¥2,000 refuelling fee.
- Settle any fines first. Traffic and parking fines are the driver's responsibility: pay them at a bank or post office before return and show us the receipt.
- Drive back to the same place — Terminal 3, P5 car park, 8th floor — at your booked time, between 09:00 and 20:00.
- Photo record. Photograph the car before return: the 4 sides plus the fuel gauge and the odometer.
- Check and settle. We check the car together. Any extra costs are settled from the deposit hold with an itemised statement, and the rest of the hold is released.
- Walk to departures, or take the free shuttle bus if you fly from Terminal 1 or 2.
Running late? Please contact us. Late return costs ¥2,000 per hour, and extensions depend on availability. Before return you get a reminder with the time, the place and the fuel to use. Full rules are in our rental terms.
Go on vs. rental counters with shuttle buses
Some airport car rentals involve a shuttle bus ride to an office outside the terminal. With Go on, that ride is simply not part of your trip:
| Step | With Go on at Haneda |
|---|---|
| Getting to the car | Walk about 5 minutes from Terminal 3 arrivals to P5, 8F |
| Shuttle bus to a rental office | Not needed |
| Document check | Done online before you land |
| Time at handover | About 30 minutes from meeting us to driving |
| Returning the car | Same place, P5 8F at Terminal 3, then walk to departures |
| Language | Booking, emails and emergency guide in 7 languages |
Help during your trip
Keep our emergency and driving guide on your phone. In an accident call the police (110) — or 119 for injuries — and then call us. For a breakdown, JAF Road Service #8139 runs 24 hours with a free interpreter. The included insurance gives unlimited cover for injury to others and damage to property, and the Safety Pack means you pay ¥0 for covered accident damage.
