Haneda Car Rental Comparison: Go on vs Large Chains (2026)

Short answer
A Haneda car rental comparison comes down to how you want to start the trip. Large chains have counters in the arrivals lobbies, many car classes and one-way returns, and some drive you by shuttle to an office outside the terminal. Go on Rent-a-Car hands over one model, a VW Golf Variant, in the Terminal 3 P5 car park, checks documents online before you land and includes ¥0-excess cover.
The short answer
There is no single "right" rental company at Tokyo Haneda Airport. The large Japanese chains and Go on Rent-a-Car are built for different trips. This guide compares them only on facts published on official pages, as of November 2026, and shows when each one is the better fit. We do not compare prices: they change with dates, car class and options, so please compare the total for your own trip.
- Choose a large chain if you need a one-way rental, a van or more than five seats, a specific car class, a pick-up before 09:00, or a booking less than 48 hours ahead.
- Choose Go on if you land at Haneda, return to Haneda, travel with up to five people, and want to walk to the car with your documents already checked and accident cover already included.
Who rents cars at Haneda Airport (as of November 2026)
According to the Haneda Airport official car rental page, the following companies have counters in the passenger terminals:
| Terminal | Counter location | Companies listed | Hours listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terminal 3 (international) | 2F Arrival Lobby, shared Rent-A-Car counter | Times Car Rental, Orix Rent-A-Car, Nissan Rent a Car, Nippon Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, Toyota Rent a Car, Hertz | 08:00–20:00 |
| Terminal 1 | 1F Arrival Lobby | Times Car Rental, Orix Rent-A-Car, Nissan Rent a Car, Nippon Rent-A-Car, Toyota Rent a Car | 08:00–20:00 (Times 09:00–20:00) |
| Terminal 2 | 1F Terminal Lobby (North and South) | Nippon Rent-A-Car, Orix Rent-A-Car, Nissan Rent a Car, Times Car Rental, Toyota Rent a Car | 08:00–20:00 (Times 09:00–20:00) |
Go on Rent-a-Car does not have a counter in the terminal. We meet you at the car, in the P5 car park, 8th floor, at Terminal 3, about a 5-minute walk from arrivals.
How you get to the car
With a counter company, your first stop after customs is usually the counter in the arrivals lobby. What happens next depends on the company and its office. Two examples from official pages, as of November 2026:
- National Car Rental (Haneda): after the counter on the arrival floor, a free shuttle takes you to the rental office, which the page describes as a 15–20 minute drive.
- Avis (Haneda): you contact Avis after collecting your luggage and a shuttle comes to pick you up; the page notes it may take 10–20 minutes to arrive. The office is in Keihinjima, Ota-ku, and after-hours return is not available.
Other companies may work differently, so check the branch page of the company you book. With Go on, there is no counter and no shuttle: you walk from Terminal 3 arrivals to P5, 8F, and you bring the car back to the same place. If you land at Terminal 1 or 2, take the free inter-terminal shuttle bus to Terminal 3 first. Our Terminal 3 pick-up guide shows each step.
Documents: at the counter or before you land
Japanese law accepts only certain driving documents, and every rental company must see your originals. The difference is *when* the paperwork happens.
- Go on: you upload photos of your passport, licence and International Driving Permit (or official Japanese translation) after booking. Our AI system and our staff check them before you arrive, then we check the originals at the car. From meeting us to driving takes about 30 minutes. Because of this check, online booking closes 48 hours before pick-up.
- Large chains: check the company's own page for how and when documents are checked and how far ahead you must book.

Insurance: CDW, NOC and what you pay after an accident
Japanese rentals include basic insurance, but the customer can still owe two things after an accident: the deductible (excess) and the NOC (Non-Operation Charge, compensation for the days the car cannot be rented). Companies usually offer optional waivers — often called CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) — that reduce these amounts.
One verified example, from Nippon Rent-A-Car's English page (as of November 2026): with basic compensation only, the customer may bear up to ¥200,000 plus actual costs, including an NOC of ¥20,000 or ¥50,000. Its "Full support" option, from ¥2,200 per day including tax, waives the deductible, the NOC and road service costs (conditions apply). Other companies use other names and amounts.
At Go on, the structure is fixed. The Safety Pack costs ¥1,650 per day, is required and is already in the price. For accidents covered by insurance and reported to the police, it waives the ¥50,000 deductibles and the NOC (¥20,000 or ¥50,000), so you pay ¥0. Cover for injury to others and damage to property is unlimited. Exclusions are listed in Article 12 of our rental terms, and our insurance and NOC guide explains each part.

When a large chain is the better choice
We would rather you rent the right car than the wrong one from us. A large chain is likely the better fit if:
- You want a one-way rental. Go on cars are picked up and returned only at Haneda Terminal 3. Nippon Rent-A-Car, for example, offers one-way rental throughout Japan with a distance-based fee (as of November 2026).
- You arrive at or leave from Narita. Go on operates only at Haneda.
- You need more than five seats or a lot of cargo space. Our Golf Variant seats five, with 605 L of luggage space (1,620 L with the rear seats folded). For larger groups, look at a chain's minivans or wagons.
- You need a pick-up before 09:00 or a return after 20:00. Our handover hours are 09:00–20:00. The airport lists most chain counters as opening at 08:00; for later times, ask the company directly.
- You are booking at short notice. Go on bookings close 48 hours before pick-up.
- You want a particular class, such as a kei car, a hybrid or a specific model.
When Go on fits
- You land at Haneda Terminal 3 (or Terminal 1 or 2 and take the free inter-terminal bus) and fly home from Haneda.
- You are up to five people and want an estate car with room for suitcases.
- You prefer to finish paperwork online, in your language, before you fly.
- You want a fixed, all-in cover with ¥0 to pay in covered accidents, with no decision at the counter.
- You are happy with a European car (VW Golf Variant) and unlimited mileage, from ¥14,650 per day including the Safety Pack and tax — check the price for your dates when you book.
How to choose: a checklist
- Airports: Are you arriving and leaving at Haneda? If not, choose a company that serves your airports.
- Route: Round trip or one-way? One-way needs a chain with a return branch.
- People and luggage: Five or fewer, with suitcases? A Golf Variant works. More? Look at vans.
- Times: Are pick-up and return between 09:00 and 20:00?
- Booking timing: Is pick-up more than 48 hours away?
- Total price: Compare the rental *plus* the deductible and NOC waiver, not only the base rate.
- Getting to the car: Check whether the company's branch is in the terminal or reached by shuttle.
- Language and documents: Can you complete the process in your language, and are your licence documents valid in Japan?

FAQ
Is Go on cheaper than the large rental chains at Haneda?
We do not make price comparisons, because totals depend on dates, car class and the options you add. Go on starts from ¥14,650 per day including the required Safety Pack and tax. When comparing, add the deductible and NOC waiver to any base rate.
Do rental companies at Haneda use shuttle buses?
Some do. As of November 2026, the official Haneda pages of National Car Rental and Avis describe a shuttle to an office outside the terminal. Go on has no shuttle: you walk about 5 minutes from Terminal 3 arrivals to the P5 car park, 8th floor.
Can I return a Go on car at Narita or in another city?
No. Every Go on car is picked up and returned at Haneda Terminal 3, P5 car park, 8th floor. For one-way trips or Narita, a large chain is the better choice.
Is the NOC included at Go on?
Yes. The required Safety Pack (¥1,650 per day) waives the deductibles and the Non-Operation Charge for accidents covered by insurance and reported to the police, so you pay ¥0. Exclusions are listed in Article 12 of our rental terms.
